jean loved athletics and wanted others to benefit by her example. only a few years before she entered college, womens athletics suffered from low prestige and sexism in society in general but by the early 1970s she saw that state of affairs change so that women could excel in a forward looking social environment. she lived long enough to see the nation move ahead.
