About | Stephan A. “Steve” Bloomfield, age 66, of Mount Gilead, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday evening, October 14, 2021, while at Marion General Hospital. On January 14, 1955, Steve was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Following birth, he was adopted by the late Verne and M. Marvene (Hershner) Bloomfield. He graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1973. As a young man in school, Steve was introduced to LuAnn Burnell. They soon became inseparable and were married on July 17, 1976, at the Edison United Methodist Church. They shared the last 45 wonderful years together as husband and wife, raising two children along the way. Steve grew up working side by side with his dad at his business, “Bloomfield TV and Appliance,” where he always helped through the years. In high school he worked at the local Sohio gas station then took a job with J.G. Clark box factory after graduation. He then spent time at HPM, Galion Iron Works and as a maintenance worker for the courthouse, jail and human services. Most recently, Steve was the assistant road superintendent for the Morrow County Engineer’s Office, from where he retired in the spring of 2020. A man of devout faith, Steve was a “Pastor of God’s people.” As a kid, he attended the Fulton Nazarene Church, where he gave his life to Christ while in high school. After he and LuAnn married, they were members of Denmark United Methodist Church until he took a position pastoring the Martel United Methodist Church in July 2013. He then pastored First Baptist Church in Mount Gilead before retiring in September 2020. Steve retired from his full-time position at the church, but spent many Sunday’s filling in at other local churches when asked. He was also honored to perform numerous weddings and funerals for those who requested his services. He was active in Vacation Bible School, participated in the Walk to Emmaus in 2010, was a long-time member and former president of the Morrow County Gideon’s International and sang with the Baptist Brothers. A special ministry of his was handing out “The Cross In My Pocket,” a little wooden cross engraved with “I am with you ALWAYS” (Matthew 28:20). Steve enjoyed bowling, beginning that hobby in grade school. He bowled in numerous leagues and looked forward to going to nationals in Reno. He loved flying in planes and had his private pilot’s license. One of his most enjoyable times in the air was having the opportunity to fly in a C-130 Hercules. He took many trips to Dayton to watch the air shows. When he wasn’t in the air, Steve was often found driving his tractor or big zero turn, grooming his property. He often escaped the stress of the day by logging onto Facebook and inspiring others with his posts. Steve treasured being around people, sharing God’s word, and was quite the hugger. He loved LuAnn and his family with all of his being, but he loved God even more. He had the heart of a servant and was consistently thinking of others and helping however he was able. Left to cherish Steve’s memory are his wife, LuAnn, of Mount Gilead; his two children: Stephanie (Steve) Barr of Caledonia, Trent (Becky) Bloomfield of Findlay; five grandchildren: Parker, Gabriella and Ethan Barr, Nicolas and Jacob Bloomfield; three sisters: Micah “Lynne Kay” (Donnie) McLain of Mount Gilead, Donna Sue (Si) Hill of TN, Kelly O’Brien of FL; broth-in-law, Dennis (Sue) Burnell of New Bremen, OH; sister-in-law, Patti (Steve) Stansbery of Edison; and nieces and nephews: Garrett, Seth, Daniel, Nicole, Ariel, Molly, Nathan, Amy, Shanna, Shawn and Brian. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Emily; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lawrence and Marian Burnell; sister-in-law, Alice Burnell, and brother-in-law, Larry Burnell. Steve’s family will greet friends from 2 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the Gilead Friends Church, 4863 U.S. Highway, 42, Mount Gilead. Services to honor and celebrate his life will begin at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Hubschman and Pastor Ron Davis officiating. Everyone knows how much Steve enjoyed wearing his Hawaiian shirts, so if you are able to, please wear your favorite one to help celebrate him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Steve’s name may be made to Morrow County Gideon’s International, Bryn Zion Baptist Church, Gospel Hill Ministry or First Baptist Church of Mount Gilead.
