About Me Hello. I attended Class 9A, 10J, 11G, 12E, and 13B at Monarch Park Collegiate and I graduated in 1969. Major events in my life include the following: I attended the University of Toronto and studied mathematics and science for 2 years. Then, I took a major change in my career path. I enrolled in part time coursework with the Society of Management Accountants and started to look for work in the finance sector in order to obtain the necessary experience to become a professional accountant. I obtained my first job after about 3 months of searching. I worked for about a year and a half in Toronto. I moved to Ottawa in June of 1974. I obtained a job as an accounting clerk quickly with one of the federal government departments. I advanced to the position of a Junior Financial Officer and I worked for that department for over 30 years. I did not obtain a professional accounting designation, but I did obtain a Financial Management Certificate, which the federal government recognizes to be equivalent to graduation from a community college. Shortly after my 21st birthday I became a born again Christian by accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. Becoming a Christian brought good changes for me quickly. Among other things, I received new friends and I thereby rose up out of the loneliness that I was facing then. Best of all, I have the peace of knowing that I have new and eternal life because of God's promise of salvation to all who accept Jesus Christ as Savior. I stress the fact that I am a Bible believing Christian and that I am not involved in a cult, nor have I ever been involved in a cult. I did little participation in sports until I moved to Ottawa back in 1974. I joined the YM-YWCA in Ottawa quickly after I moved there and started to participate in fitness classes, which usually included short segments of running. That led to my taking up running and I have been an avid runner ever since then. I like the benefits of running, including having good cardiovascular fitness and having improved control over health issues such as weight and blood pressure. Also, running has helped me to feel better about myself. I feel that becoming a runner (and thereby getting into better physical shape) has been one of the wisest things that I have ever done. I was married in May of 1995 and have been living with my wife Janet ever since then. Thus, we had our 27th anniversary last May. Janet has done different jobs, including being a nanny, doing cleaning in the homes of elderly people, and working in a veterinary clinic. She is a lovely woman. We do not have any kids (just a cat). Janet and I moved to Victoria, British Columbia 2 days after Christmas of 2005 and we have been living in Victoria ever since then. Ottawa is a fine city, but the winters there are too cold and snowy for our liking. The Pacific Ocean, which has a warming effect during winters and a cooling effect during summers, is the main influence on the weather in Victoria. The winters here in Victoria are mild (though rainy), with there being little snowfall normally. Even as early as February, flowers such as daffodils are blooming and can be picked. The summers here are a little cooler and less humid than the summers in Ottawa and Toronto and thus are pleasant. Hardly ever are there hot, humid heat waves in Victoria. We like life here in Victoria and intend to stay here. After trying for over 5 years to get a job in Victoria, I obtained a job as the finance clerk for a large church in downtown Victoria. I worked in this job for 5 and a half years until this job ended in January of 2017. Since then I have done a bit of contract work and worked part time for about two years for a woman who runs a bookkeeping business out of her home. Now I am working at two part time jobs as a finance clerk. The combined workload of these two jobs is close to that of a full time job. These two jobs have been pleasant and I hope to continue to work in them. As for activities and interests other than running, I have an interest in astronomy and I am a member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Also, I have had virtually a lifelong interest in trains. In other words, I am a rail fan. In fact, I took train trips so often when I lived in Ottawa that one of the ticket agents in the train station in Ottawa got to know me a bit and said to me once that "You're a good train traveler". I took that comment to be a compliment. Train service in Victoria was stopped several years ago, but there is ongoing discussion about restoring train service in Victoria. Of course, in being a Christian I have been attending Bible believing churches and I have read the Bible numerous times. Even now I remember many of my classmates from Class 13B and from other classes from Monarch Park Collegiate. After I moved to Ottawa back in 1974 and for many years, I did not feel inclined to reconnect with anybody from Monarch Park Collegiate. I went "off the radar" so to say. However, I have been wondering recently about some of my former classmates and so I have enrolled in the Monarch Park Collegiate Institute Alumni. I am open to receiving a message from anybody who is inclined to send one and I will look forward to reading such a message. I ask, however, that there not be any profanity or inapp...(read more)
