I am nominating my son Kris McWhirt for the Wall of Fame. Kris was very involved in several sports during his years at Monacan. Most notably football. He participated in baseball as an 8th grader, football, track, and wrestling. Kris always had a goal of enlisting in the Marines after High School, but a screw in his foot from breaking it during track one day kept him from doing that. Being determined to serve his country, he got a special waiver from the Army. After boot camp he served a year in South Korea and currently is deployed to Afghanistan. He has had a few close calls that I know of, and I'm sure more that I don't know. I am very proud of his determination and willingness to serve and protect the United States. He is an MP and he is planning to go into law enforcement upon returning to the States. He is married to wonderful woman, Kim, who also serves our country in the Army. They have a beautiful daughter, Abigail, who he has only seen once when she was a week old. She is now 6 months old. He left for Afghanistan in April 2008 and is returning August, 2009. He loves God and his Country, and this Mom could not be more proud.
