Ann Elizabeth Springer Embry, 64, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma passed away on June 6, 2021, at her home.
A Celebration of Ann's life will be held on Saturday,11:00 a.m., June 26, 2021, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 601 N. Lake Drive, Sand Springs, Oklahoma 74063, Reception to follow at their home in Sand Springs, OK 74063. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
Ann was born in Ft. Worth, TX to Helen and Ed Springer on January 23, 1957. She spent all her "growing up" years in Mineral Wells, TX. She married Kenneth Eugene Embry in 1981, a marriage that lasted 40 years. Ann's dream was always to be a mother. In 1988, she and Kenny were blessed through adoption with their daughter, Kelsey Jean and then again in 1991 with their son, Austin Taylor. Their family was complete.
Ann was a proud graduate of Texas Tech University where she was a beloved member of Chi Omega Sorority. Other accolades at Texas Tech include induction into Mortar Board, Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, Omicron Delta Kappa, and President's Hostess. Ann was a devoted educator for 35 years, teaching in Grand Prairie, TX, Graford, TX, and Mineral Wells, TX, retiring from Tomball, TX ISD in 2011. Ann was often recognized for her excellence in teaching throughout her career and was awarded Teacher of the Year numerous times, culminating in being named Teacher of the Year for Region 4, representing Tomball ISD. After their move to Oklahoma in 2011, Ann realized she missed being in the classroom. There was an opportunity to teach 5th grade math in Olive, OK, a "God thing", as Ann would say, since that was her favorite subject and grade to teach. This was where she finished out her teaching career. Many students were touched by Ann's heart and devotion to teaching, which was truly her passion and her calling.
Ann was very active in her church and her community. One of her passions in life was ringing handbells, which she did for 25 years, especially at First United Methodist Church in Mineral Wells in the Carillon Bell Choir. Ann participated in many Youths Mission Trips and VBS. For years, she taught Sunday School and Mother's Day Out, always volunteering wherever she was needed. In Oklahoma, Ann was committed to Kairos, a women's prison ministry, which was a life changing experience for her. Ann and Kenny were "behind the scenes" contributors who stepped up to the plate wherever they saw a need. In retirement, Ann found great joy in pickle ball, hiking, farkle, book club, aerobics and any outdoor activities she could share with her many close friends.
Ann's faith was constantly demonstrated through her mantra, "God is Large and In Charge". This strong faith carried her through all the triumphs and tragedies that she faced in life. And now she is in the arms of her Jesus, whole and healthy, rejoicing in her Eternal Home.
Ann is survived by her husband, Kenny, their daughter Kelsey Jean Ruckel and husband Stephen of Garland, TX: sister, Robbie Mullennix and husband Justin of Richmond, TX: nephew Reese Mullennix, wife Julie and daughter, Addison of Richmond, TX, as well as many beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her dear parents, Helen and Ed Springer, her brother John Springer, and her son, Austin Taylor Embry, taken much too soon.
