Craig Holamon
Class of 1967
Craig played basketball, football and and track at MWHS. He was a two-year all-district player for the district champs Mineral Wells Rams basketball team. He led the Rams basketball team to a 43 wins in two seasons. He played for the Weatherford Jr. College Coyotes. Craig played basketball for for 48 years before ending his playing career as played in a 45-and-older league. He served as a sportswriter for over 45 years, including almost 20 years covering the Rams and Lady Rams. Everyone loved reading how the what he had to say about the Rams and Lady Rams.
Illness forced him to retire 2008.
He received over 44 awards and certificates for his work, including the Texas Women's Coaching Association Sportswriter of the Year in 1984. Craig is proudest of numerous school board statewide media awards and other award from sports fans in Mineral Wells, Gordon, Bryson, Newcastle, Olney, Jacksboro, Santo, Strawn, Weatherford and Graham. Craig was a Texas Press Association photography award winner.
He was a member of the Mineral Well High School Hall of Fame selection committee and the Wells All-Star selection committee.
He worked in support of track and field facilities in Mineral Wells and Weatherford, the construction of Pratt Field and Kessler Field baseball and softball complex as well as the approval of the construction of the new MWHS Football Field
