Josh Abel
Class of 1980
While in my senior year at Milford, I was also a student at Catonsville Community College. After graduation I went to University of Maryland at College Park for 2 years and then graduated from then Towson State University.
I am currently retired, but I am doing some writing. I have had several essays published. Three have been published by Adelaide's Literary Magazine about my time at Milford Mill. I refer to them as the Milford Mill Triology "High School Angst" is about me and Miss Heartly (English Teacher), Miss Neidigh (English Teacher), and Mrs. Greenwalt (Math Teacher). "A Love At First Sight, Of Heart, And Mind" is about me and Debra Sidebotham. The third one is "High School Crushes" is about me and 3 crushes from the class of 1980; the very beautiful Lori Ehudin, Carol Rudo, and Diane Rogers.
I also had 3 crushes from the class of 1979: Phyllis Goldman, Kori Hamburg, and Leslie Bukowitz.
I have had several jobs, but the two I liked the most were as a DDMP Monitor II (a DDMP Monitor II is a probation officer who handles DUI/DWI cases) and as a Direct Care Worker at a home for at-risk youth. I had several successes at both jobs. I liked helping people. While at the Monitor academy so was fellow class of 1980 Milford Mill alumni Sheila Thomas-Alford. I didn't know Sheila when I was at Milford.
Some of the other essays I've written which have gotten published are:
"Ghosts From The Past" (by griefstories.org), "Make The Most Of Second Chances" (by SoberNation), and "Holiday Lunch Club" (by booksie).
I have volunteered for: the National Zoo, Frederick County Pet Adoption and Animal Shelter, and Discovery Station (a children's museum).
I hope everyone from the class of 1980 is doing ok especially Miss Heartly, Miss Neidigh, Mrs. Greenwalt, Debra Sidebotham, Lori Ehudin, Carol Rudo, Diane Rogers, Phyllis Goldman, Kori Hamburg, and Leslie Bukowitz.
My favorite quote is " The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die" Ted Kennedy.
Back in 1980 if you were going to be 18 by election day. You were permitted to vote in Maryland's primary. I am a lifelong democrat so I voted for Ted Kennedy in Maryland's democratic primary in 1980 (the first time I ever voted).
