About Me COLONEL JOHN E. (GENE) TUCKER, USAF (Retired) Deputy Director of Security - - Los Alamos National Laboratory Born and raised in Oklahoma,, John E. (Gene) Tucker is a 1962 graduate of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (Outstanding Alumnus 1996), and a 1964 graduate of Oklahoma State University (OSU) majoring in Political Science with a focus on Russia and the governments of Asia and Africa. Upon graduation from OSU and his designation as a Distinguished Graduate of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), he entered the United States Air Force (USAF) and continued as a security professional for 30 years. During the course of his military career, he was assigned outside the continental United States serving in Vietnam, Germany, Korea and Hawaii. From Second Lieutenant to Colonel, he served as a Shift Commander, Deputy Operations Officer, Operations Officer, Staff Officer, Squadron Commander, Commandant, Group Commander, Major Air Command Deputy Chief of Staff, Security Police and ultimately Director of Operations and Deputy Chief of Security Police, Headquarters United States Air Force. He was the Group Commander and Commandant of the USAF Security Police Academy, the largest security and law enforcement academy in the free world. He was the Chief of Security Police for Pacific Air Forces where his command extended from the west coast of the United States to Alaska, Japan, Philippine Islands, Guam, and Korea. He concluded his military career as the Deputy Chief of Security Police, Headquarters United States Air Force, the Pentagon, Washington DC where he was responsible for the operation of the largest police, law enforcement, and nuclear security force in the free world; a force of over 36,000 personnel. His military decorations include the Legion of Merit with cluster, Airmans Medal for Heroism, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (four clusters), AF Commendation Medal, Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Citation and cluster with V Device for Valor, AF Organizational Excellence Award, National Defense Service Medal (Bronze Star), Vietnam Service Medal (two Bronze Stars) and numerous foreign decorations including the South Vietnamese Medal of Honor and Cross of Gallantry With Palm and Silver Star. He holds a Criminology and Forensic Science Masters Degree from The George Washington University, Washington DC. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy, the USAF Squadron Officers School, Air Command and Staff Collage, Air War College and Industrial Collage of the Armed Forces. His professional affiliations include the FBI National Academy Associates, and past Hawaii FBI Association State President. He is a Life Member of the United States Air Force Security Forces Association (AFSFA) and past member of the AFSFA Board of Directors. He is a Legacy Life Member (Gold Level) of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW). He is a Life Member of the American Legion; Disabled American Veterans, Air Force Association, Military Officers Association of America, Military Order of the World Wars, USAF Air War College Alumni Association and most respectfully a Honorary Life Member of the Noncommissioned Officers Association as well as being appointed a CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT of Security Police upon his retirement by the USAF Security Police Chiefs Group.. Upon retirement from the USAF, he served as the Deputy Director of Security for Los Alamos National Laboratory (the birthplace of the atomic bomb), Los Alamos, New Mexico from 1994 to 2003. He has published nationally and spoken to numerous military units and military fraternal organizations regarding the mental illness, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affecting veterans of the Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan wars; an illness for which he is being treated. Colonel Tucker is married to the former Mary Louise Zodrow of Claremore, OK; they have two daughters and four grandchildren.
