Class of 1989
Marine Corps, 6 Years
MOS 6323: Supervised, coordinated, and/or performed in scheduled aircraft inspections, including the 100- and 150- Hour Phase Inspections, servicing, trouble shooting, maintenance, and test of avionics components, subsystems and ancillary equipment of installed aircraft communications, navigation and deceptive electronics counter measure systems. Determined maintenance sequences, methods, crew, and equipment requirements for the CH-53 A/D Helicopter. Trained new avionics personnel in job procedures, rules, and safety regulation, which included safe utilization, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste. Inspected and certified maintenance work. As an Aircrewman, performed pre-flight and post-flight inspections, and spent numerous hours cross training in Airframe and Power plant shops. Performed additional duties in aircraft towing, taxing, aircraft loading (weighed and balanced), and fueling.
•Received a United Stated Marine Corps Certificate of Commendation on February 1994 for superior performance while assigned as the Avionics Chief. "While filling a Master Sergeants billet, Corporal Butala's aggressive leadership and attention to detail was key in averaging seventeen sign offs per day, attaining the lowest error rate for paperwork for Avionics in the last six months. This is commendable considering the most experienced subordinate had less than one year in the squadron."
