About On Sunday, Aug. 17, the Lord called to His side the soul of Kenneth Raymond Krueger, age 59, of Spokane, Wash., formerly of Menomonie. He passed away at the Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane.

He was born Aug. 20, 1948, in Menomonie to Henry and Violet (Maves) Krueger. Ken was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie. He attended grade school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1966.

Ken served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and earned the rank of sergeant in the 101st Air-borne. He received several medals, including two purple hearts and the bronze star.

After his military service, Ken worked briefly at 3-M in Menomonie before moving to Cheney, Wash., where he pursued a degree in geology at Eastern Washington State University. He purchased Showalter’s Tavern in Cheney, which he owned and operated for several years. In the mid-80’s, he moved to Spokane where he served as a postal carrier for many years for the U.S. Post Office until his disability retirement five years ago.

Ken was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie and a member of V.F.W. Post #51 in Spokane. Ken loved playing dartball as well as English darts and was a passionate Green Bay Packer fan.

Ken is survived by a sister, Donna (Tom) Chaudoir of Menomonie; a brother, Thomas (Karen) Krueger of Menomonie; nieces and nephews, Scott (Alex) Wagner of Savage, Minn., Jenny (Kevin) Hanson of Eau Claire, and Nicholas, Lucas and Andrea Krueger, all of Menomonie; and beloved aunt, Alma Maves of Menomonie. He is also survived by cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Violet Krueger; grandparents and many well-loved aunts and uncles.
