Terry Rae (Terrill) Schaefer, age 52, of Menomonie, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004 at Myrtle Werth Hospital-Mayo Health System in Menomonie.

Terry was born Oct. 3, 1952 in Ladysmith, the daughter of William L. and Marietta (Phipps) Terrill. She was baptized at the Federated Church in Bruce in 1952 and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Menomonie in 1964. Terry married Ronald Schaefer on July 10, 1971, at the United Methodist Church in Menomonie.

Terry had a passion for horses. Her grandmother (Ida) helped her save money to buy a horse when Terry was in high school and she named her Lady Ida. She entered her horse in 4-H competition and won state. Terry was in 4-H softball and was a Brownie, and she also belonged to Job's Daughters, daughters of Masons and was queen.

Terry graduated from Menomonie High School in 1970. She then attended Eau Claire Vocational School. Terry was currently employed at the Menomonie Police Department, where she has been employed for the past 32 years.

At work , Terry was always known for her humor. For example, when a new officer would start, she would ask, "Have you seen the chief? They would go and see him and chief would reply, "Have you talked with Terry Schaefer."

Terry was very active in the Federated Women's Club and was the public affairs chairman at the time of her death. She was always a bell ringer at Christmas for the Salvation Army. The Crop Walk was also important to her for many years. This year from her bed, she raised $2,000. She was also very giving to the food pantry. Terry loved her flag and her country.

Faith was something that was always important to Terry. She was very active in her church. Always sponsored a confirmation member, was Sunday School teacher, superintendent of Sunday School, on many boards of the church, and she and her husband were the Senior High Youth Leaders.

Terry always welcomed you with a hello and a smile. She was never one to criticize anyone. She loved her horses, family, friends, reading and fishing at the flowage with her family. Terry's final act was the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

Terry is survived by her wonderful husband, the love of her life, Ron Schaefer; two children, Shannon (Beaver) Hall of Elmwood and Ross (Michelle) Schaefer of Menomonie; four grandchildren, Brett and Shelby Hall and Abigail and Emma Schaefer; her mother, Marietta Terrill of Menomonie; two brothers and two sisters, twin brother, Tom (Barb) Terrill of Spooner, JoAnne Terrill of Menomonie, William L.
