Joanne was a McLane High School graduate proceeding on to earn a bachelor degree just shy of her Masters degree. She was a credentialed K-12 teacher and worked for Fresno, West Fresno, and Washington Unified School districts separately for the past 33 years. Tenacious, friendly spirited, and diligent Joanne never associated with defeat, was an inspiration to her husband, family, friends, and her students now suffering the immense pain losing her.

Joanne was married the past fifteen years to her childhood sweetheart, Wayne Barrett, a gifted local pinstriper, custom painter, and Martial arts student, certified instructor, and successful competitor they remained inseparable to the end.

Joanne lived an exemplary, selfless life earning the undeniable love and admiration for many, many people. A wonderful little ray of sunshine has touched many hearts deeply, and now she is gone. I love you baby and I'm okay down here, soon to be with you up there.

Joanne is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Barrett; her dearest childhood friend Debra; long time friend Tina; her sister Terry; and many loving nieces and nephews; close cousins; her college teacher friends; uncles, aunts; and a godmother, Auntie "Lu" who passed just last night.

This is the worst possible information I could ever forward. Tremendous is only a minor fraction to the emotional devastation in losing Joannie. If just the events (obstacles) encountered and resolved in this past year alone were made public, this remarkable little woman would be immortalized.

Joannie was the best possible devoted person, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher (educator) and loving wife because that was exactly what she wanted to be. Joannie enjoyed and excelled in all of her roles from which she constantly provided joy and happiness for her immediate family (me) and other relatives regardless of genuine or insincere loyalties and anyone / everyone that she encountered.

That alone emphasized her superb character qualities, she always took the higher ground treating everyone with dignity and respect. Joannie's integrity could not be wrongly influenced or corrupted, she was an inspiration to many, many people one of which being me. I cannot begin to list the endless examples of how Joannie inflicted a positive influence into our lives and all were done by example. Joannie never approached anything seeking reward or award, she was actually found sufficient contentment and satisfaction from the happiness that she could provide. As jaded and hardened as I might be, Joannie was proof that wonderful, decent people do exist.

Joanne LaNotte-Barrett was one
McLane High School Highlander that has returned to her school, classmates, teachers, and mentors a bonifide reason to be proud. God Bless you Joannie.
