| About Me | After college and seminary I was ordained in 1975 I pastored two churches in Carroll County, OH for three years and then entered active duty as a chaplain in the US Army. I lived in Alexandria, VA for six months while interning as a chaplain at St. Elizabeths Hospital. I attended US Army Chaplain Basic Course at Ft. Wadsworth, NY for six weeks. The Army assigned me to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO for three years. Then I was assigned to the 2nd Armored Division (Forward) in Garstedt, Germany for four years. The Army sent me to the Chaplain Advanced School at Ft. Monmouth, NJ for six months and then assigned me to Sierra Army Depot in Herlong, CA for four years. After the California tour I left active duty, returned to Ohio to pastor the United Methodist Church of the Cross in East Springfield, OH. During that eight year pastorate I also served in the Army Reserve. I had tours in Egypt, Panama and El Salvador during that time. I finished a total of 21 years, retiring with the rank of Major in 2000. After pastoring the East Springfield church for eight years, the bishop appointed me to Christ United Methodist Church in Cleveland. I served there for 10 years. During that time my wife of 33 years (Velma) died of ovarian cancer. Two years later I married Rev. Cynthia Theobald who is also a pastor. In 2008 our bishop moved us to Stark County where Cindy pastors the Simpson United Methodist Church and I pastored the Minerva United Methodist Church. We live in the parsonage provided by the Simpson church. In 2011 I retired from the church. Cindy and I still live in Stark County as she pastors Simpson United Methodist Church in Plain Township.
