LOCAL TELEVISION PIONEEER, CHANNEL 4 ENGINEER INTO
ST.LOUIS MEDIA HALL OF FAME: ENGINEER LEO TEVLIN HELPED
LAUNCH 3 TELEVISION STATIONS, MEMBER OF USA’S 1ST
E-N-G CREW @ KMOX-TV/CBS INC.

Television Pioneer Leo Tevlin is a new member of the St. Louis Media Hall of Fame. A World War II Aviator & Korean War Vet,
Leo Tevlin was behind the camera for many great moments in St. Louis history going back to the 1950’s CBS Baseball Game of the Week with Dizzy Dean & Pee Wee Reese, countless NFL games on CBS as Cameraman & Engineer, completion of the Arch & CBS coverage of
Space exploration with the Mercury, Gemini & Apollo missions.

An Engineering grad of St. Louis University, Leo Tevlin was instrumental in getting KSD-TV, KACY-TV (the old Dumont Network station) and KWK-TV ch.4 prior to CBS Owning & Operating ch.4 here as KMOX-TV. TEVLIN also has the distinction of being on the first mini-cam crews in the country as News gathering transitioned from Film to the introduction of video tape and microwave Live signal technology which became the foundation of TV News today world wide.

Like many of those early television engineers, Leo Tevlin is also an Amateur Radio Operator (Ham Radio) now in his amazing 82nd year as an FCC issued licensee. Tevlin, a man of great faith, used his Ham radio call letters W0ZVJ & W0TV to build, reach and establish amateur radio stations in South American jungles & mountainous village missions established by the Archdioces of St. Louis. These ‘ham stations’ would serve as the only live communication link in the 1950’s & 60;s between missionary priests assigned from St. Louis. Tevlin held weekly schedules allowing Priest to talk to their families & loved ones in St. Louis.

The father of eight, Leo Tevlin is 93, his youngest daughter Amy Myers carries on the family tradition by currently working at ch.4.
Tevlin’s youngest son Lou, worked at KMOX-TV, KMOX Radio & FOX-2 as a Sports Reporter/Anchor/Host.

The honorees were selected by the directors of the St. Louis Media History Foundation for their "significant contributions to St. Louis journalism, advertising, and public relations.
The inductees will be recognized at a ceremony at 5:30 p.m., March 7, at the St. Louis City Center, 400 South 14th St. in St. Louis.
