Herman Royster Pollard, Jr., known to his family and friends as Jack, died Saturday, December 17, 2011. He was 73. He was the son of the late Herman and Elvie Roberts Pollard.
Mr. Pollard was born May 13, 1938 in Danville, Va. and spent most of his life in the Norfolk area. He was a graduate of Maury High School and attended Old Dominion University. Mr. Pollard was in the shipping industry and retired from W. J. Browning, Inc. in 2000. He was a life member of the Hampton Roads Coal Association, The Norfolk Traffic Club, and the Optimist Club of Norfolk where he wrote the monthly newsletter for a number of years.
Mr. Pollard was a member of Larchmont United Methodist Church. There he served on numerous committees, was past-president of the Men's Club, and served as the church treasurer for the past six years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia Anderson Pollard; daughters Susan T. Pollard, Ann P. Scheerer and her husband Andrew; grandsons Drew and Pace Scheerer; sisters Frances Prendergast (Carl), Marjorie Broach (Edward) and Barbara Beamon (Robert); brother-in-law Robert T. Anderson (Kathleen) and eleven nieces and nephews
