John Melvin
Class of 1968
Marine Corps, 3 Years
John P. Melvin, 68, of Beverly, died Monday, October 22, 2018 at Beverly Hospital due to complications with COPD & Pneumonia.
He was born in Haverhill, October 12, 1950, son of the late Leonard J. and Rose (Stevenson) Melvin.
Upon graduating from Masconomet High School, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and earned a National Defense Medal. John was a disabled Veteran.
He was employed for several years in the construction industry and enjoyed race horses.
His survivors include his siblings, Alanna Casey and her husband Dennis of Byfield, Margaret Boardman and her husband Edward of Boxford, Christopher Melvin and his wife Kim of FL, Rosemary Dusang and her husband Sam Peppard of FL, and Kelly Stidham and significant other Shawn Brackett of Somersworth, NH, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Johnny was also the brother of the late Corporal James L. Melvin KIA during the Vietnam War.
He also lost two other brothers Lenny Melvin in 2014 & Mike Melvin in 2016, plus a great niece Madeline Rose in 2007.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Groveland. Contributions in his memory may be made to the James L. Melvin Post 379, PO Box 278, West Boxford, MA 01885. A Celebration of Johnny’s Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Haverhill & Bradford.
