Woman dies of burns

A 24-yr-old Greenfield Township woman died at 1:26 p.m Wednesday Feb in West Perm Hospital Pittsburgh of burns from an apparent Jan 28 suicide attempt.

Sharon L Weyant of Claysburg RD 1 died in Pittsburgh's West Penn Hospital after suffering and third-degree burns over more than 85 percent of her body. Freedom-Greenfield Township police plan to Investigate incident.

According to township police the young woman apparently doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze in front of her home hours after doctors tried to discourage her from leaving the Altoona Hospital Health Center. An Ambulance crew took Mrs Weyant to Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring Spring: physicians there ordered her flown to a hospital burn unit in Pittsburgh.

A spokesman at the hospital's mental health center reported today that Mrs Weyant Voluntarily entered the unit Dec 29, suffering for nearly a month from anxiety and obsession with "Hatred and Killing."

The woman fled the unit on at least one occasion, but was returned for further treatment. on Jan. 28 - although a specialist described her as not completely recovered and said he urged her to stay - she requested and received her discharge.

State law requires hospital to allow patients to go free if they show no danger to themselves or others, the officials said.

Mrs Weyant was employed by Ray's Meats at Leighty's Market, Newry.

She was born March 29, 1958 in Roaring Spring, a daughter of Donald E and Edna A McCarty Stiffler, and May 19, 4979, in Claysburg RD, married A. Clyde Weyant.

Surviving are her husband, parents of East Freedom RD grandparents Mr and Mrs Warren Stiffler of East Freedom RD and a brother Dennis of Altoona.

Mrs Weyandt was a member of Smith Corner Mennonite Church.

She was a 1978 graduate of Central High School Martinsburg.

Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m Friday in the Marvin C Leslie Funeral Home Claysburg.

WEYANT Services for Sharon L of Claysburg RD 1 will be held at 2 p.m Saturday in the Lower Claar Church of the Brethren by the Rev E Myrl Weyant Interment In Upper Claar Cemetery Claysburg RD. Friends will be received from 2 lo 9 p.m Friday in the Marvin C Leslie Funeral Home Claysburg.
