Rich Seubert

Professional football player for the New York Giants

What is Rich Seubert known for?

Rich Seubert, an American football player notable for his time with the New York Giants, was born on March 30, 1979, in Stratford, Wisconsin. He stands out as a notable alumnus from Marshfield High School in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Apart from football, Seubert showcased his athleticism in basketball and baseball during his high school years, leading the corresponding teams to two state championships each.

After high school, Seubert attended Western Illinois University. He started his college football career playing as a tight end but later moved to tackle. He was recognized as a first team All-Gateway honoree in his senior year. Despite his college achievements, Seubert was undrafted in the 2001 NFL Draft. However, he managed to join the New York Giants as a Free Agent that same year.

During his professional career with the Giants from 2001 to 2010, Seubert played primarily as a guard and center. A dedicated player, Seubert's standout moment came during the 2002 NFC playoffs in a game against the San Francisco 49ers. Although the game was controversial and led to an official NFL apology to the Giants, it showcased Seubert's dedication to the game. Unfortunately, in 2003, Seubert sustained serious injuries when his opponent stepped on the back of his right leg, breaking his tibia, fibula, and ankle. After a lengthy recovery period involving five surgeries, he returned to the field in 2005.

Despite the setbacks, Seubert's resolve saw him regain a starting job in the 2007 season. Additionally, Seubert was a versatile player even taking up the role of a tight end. His performance on the field led to a three-year contract extension with the Giants in 2008. Seubert's illustrious career with the Giants culminated in a magnificent Super Bowl victory (XLII) and him starting 16 games in 2010. His contribution to the team led to Giants' GM, Jerry Reese, naming him the team's MVP for his solid performance.

Unfortunately, Seubert was released from the Giants on July 28, 2011. Throughout his career, Seubert played 104 games, starting in 88 of them, which can be further looked up on NFL.com.
