What is Marshall E. Cusic Jr. known for?

Marshall Edward Cusic Jr., born on August 24, 1943 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, is a distinguished alumnus of Marshfield High School in Marshfield, Wisconsin who went on to make notable contributions to both the medical and military fields. After his graduation from Marshfield High School, he pursued his studies at Wesleyan University and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He later practiced medicine at the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wisconsin and served as an associate clinical professor of pediatrics (allergy and immunology) at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

His dedication to service didn't stop at the medical field, though. Cusic joined the United States Navy in 1966, participating in several posts and stations throughout his illustrious military career. He served with a U.S. Marine division in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was recalled to active duty in San Diego, California in 1978. He later led training exercises to Costa Rica and Indonesia, and conducted field research on the dengue virus at the Naval Medical Research Institute and in Peru.

He commanded the Naval Reserve Naval Hospital Great Lakes from 1997 to 1998, and the Naval Reserve Fleet Hospital Great Lakes from 1999 to 2001. By 2003, he was already the Deputy Surgeon for the United States Pacific Fleet. In the following years, he took on the role of Deputy Commander for Total Force Integration, Navy Medicine Support Command, and Chief of the Medical Reserve Corps for the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.

Throughout his career, Cusic Jr. has received multiple recognitions for his service and accomplishments. He has been awarded the Legion of Merit, the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with two service stars, the Navy Recruiting Service Ribbon, the Navy Overseas Service Ribbon with an award star, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with a silver hourglass device.
