About	Biography Funeral Services for Mr. Robert Newton McCommon, 61, of Longview were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 23, 2010 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Ron Avey and Bro. Bob Bryant officiating. Interment at Yates Memorial Cemetery in Scottsville. Robert Newton McCommon was born August 30, 1949 in Bolivar, TN the son of Norman Earl McCommon and Rita Jean Erwin McCommon. He attended and graduated from Marshall High School. On September 25, 1982 he married Lavenda Burrow McCommon in Jefferson, Texas. Mr. McCommon worked as a draftsman for McCommon & Associates in Longview for 26 years. He also served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Forrestal. Robert enjoyed fishing and watching Nascar. He also enjoyed playing softball and riding motorcycles. Surviving Robert are his wife of 27 years, Lavenda McCommon, of Longview; two daughters, Lauren McCommon, of Dallas and Kimber McCommon, of Longview; one son, Andrew McCommon, of Longview; parents, Norman and Rita McCommon; brother, Douglas McCommon, of Longview; sister, Norma McCommon Mattox, of Marshall; nephew, Justin Posey, of Longview; three nieces, Katherine Dawson, of Austin, Maleah McCommon, of Dallas and Meagan McCommon, of Longview and a number of cousins and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Clifford Scott, Glen Coleman, Bob Gillam, Ken Burgin, Ron Mattox, and Raymon Kale.
