How many of us have played in events where there is a car sitting by a green, just daring a golfer to win it? In my almost five years of writing this column, I have not had the pleasure of writing about even one golfer who won the car. That changes today. It wasn’t just an ordinary car. It was a 2015 Maserati Ghibli, and a guy playing in the LPGA member/guest on Oct. 24 is the incredibly lucky winner. Mike Evans hit his 3 hybrid into the wind on the 176-yard, 12th hole at the Hills Course; it bounced once on the green and rolled into the hole. The car was offered by Maserati of Daytona, a dealership slated to open in January. Randy Dye, the dealership owner, just happened to be playing on the next hole and heard the celebration. For Evans, 54, of Orange City, it “was a dream come true.” The 2015 Maserati Ghibli has a suggested retail price of about $79,000.
