Urinetown: The Musical hits Marana High School

This year, Marana High School is premiering yet another show-stopping event of a spring production: Urinetown. Though the name may sound off-putting at first, Urinetown is a witty, musical satire about a town in which it is illegal to use private amenities and, so, the citizens must pay to use public restrooms. In a nutshell, a revolution is sparked by the outraged townspeople! This musical is full of hilarious puns and antics, crazy situations, romance, revolution, and, of course, music and dance.

Urinetown is expected to be one of Marana High School's greatest performances ever with an intense set, grand dance routines, and superb musical talent (of which, many of the students were Regional Choir, Band, and Orchestra participants). We would be especially honored if alumni attended the event.

The show dates are:
Wednesday, March 14th
Thursday, March 15th
Friday, March 16th

Each night's show will begin at 7pm and run to approximately 10 pm and will take place in the Marana High School auditorium, located at 12000 W. Emigh Rd.

Tickets are $8 and may be purchased at the door. If you're in town, come and support your community! We would love to have you there!

Hello, Dolly! premiers at MHS in March

For those still living in the area or planning a visit to Marana around Spring Break, have we got the perfect welcome-home entertainment for you!

The following is an excerpt from the March Issue of the Tiger Tribune. Be sure to come out and support the good ol' Blue and Gold!

by Joanne Emmerick
The musical, Hello, Dolly!, which is regarded by many as a stage classic, will be premiering at Marana High School on Wednesday, March 16 and running the consecutive Thursday and Friday nights.
Its a get up and go musical where youll leave [the show] snapping your fingers, said musical pit performer, Freshman Kirsten Wilson.
Hello, Dolly! follows self-proclaimed matchmaker, Dolly, performed by Senior Mary Gaughan, in her attempts to make the perfect match for half-millionaire Horace Vandergelder, performed by Sophomore Dustin Hensley. However, through a series of crazy hijinks involving a couple of store clerks and some pretty girls, Dolly ends up falling in love with Horace herself and begins trying to sway her client towards herself.
As Junior chorus member, Michelle Ford, said, I think the story is really cute! I like [how] it is about a woman who uses her clever womanly wiles and intelligence to pair up people who belong together.
The tale, woven with the perfect blend of heart and humor, is sure to enchant audiences of all ages with the timeless songs and energetic dance numbers.
I'm most looking forward to dancing, stated Junior Amber Dietz, who plays the part of Irene Malloy. This show has a lot of dancing and, with so many people on stage, performing together, you can't help but feel like a family.
It takes the collaboration of cast, crew, and musical pit members to bring the adventure to life.
First of all, its awesome, commented Wilson, about performing. Second, it expands our abilities and improves our performance. [I love] performing with kids who really care about music and Mr. Attebery is just good at what he does.
Each of the fine arts teachers are lending a hand with Brian Paradis, theatrical director; Sara Ross, choral director; and James Attebery, musical pit director.
For those who have contributed, this production is the anticipation of the season.
As Senior chorus member Lindsay Connelly commented, Im looking forward to bringing it all together, making it the best it can be, and, with an ensemble as good [and united] as ours, I just cant wait!
Perfect for the entire family and ready for date night, Hello, Dolly! is a fun way to spend a night full of possibilities. Tickets, which cost five dollars, will go on sale the week before opening night, March 16, and can be received via select cast and crew members. The shows begin at 7 pm each night and tickets may be purchased at-the-door.
It's that time of year to say hello to spring and Hello, Dolly!

Need interview before 4/15/09

Hey there all former Marana Tigers! My name is Joanne Emmerick and I am currently a student enrolled in the high school's journalism class. I am working on an article for the Tiger Tribune about MHS' former alumni: Where are they now? The question is, where are YOU now? Anyone voted most likely...was it fullfilled? Any good success stories of how Marana helped you out in some way? Or, perhaps you just want to share some memories about the Marana High that you knew.
You can reach me at joracemme@gmail.com to submit a short memory, story, picture, or a shout-out to relive some of the glory days, otherwise we can have an actual interview...you decide!
Keep in mind that this will be the last issue of the 2008-2009 school year and the deadline will be preferebly 4/15/09. Please remember to include your full name and of what graduating class you are. A way of contact will also be greatly appreciated.
Again, if you have any questions whatsoever feel free to contact me. I can't wait to hear from you! Go Tigers!
p.s-Any former journalists are more than welcome to be involved :)
