About Me | "Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but openings where our loved ones can look down to let us know they are happy." A sensitive Cat and Dog Mommy who loves all animals, but especially dogs and cats. I am absolutely heartbroken that thousands of innocent animals are being abandoned at shelters (partly because of the economy). Thousands of animals are euthanized each year! I was a teacher and now tutor. On July 21, 2012, I brought my beautiful Calina-Paige, a Bichon, home. I do agility with her, she passed her CGC, and she and I do pet therapy so Dixie could retire. I’m keeping myself busy with many activities that involve animals, but also couple as therapy. I composed a piano piece in memory of Alan and Colin, which is part of the music therapy, I do agility with my neighbor's dog, Boo, Calina and I visit Kenston Intermediate School for Pet Therapy. Studies have proven that people with autism benefit from working with animals. I have a NVLD and I have a really hard time interpreting non-verbal signals from people, so my theory is that if I start understand and interpreting non-verbal signals from dogs and cats, maybe I can learn to understand and interpret non-verbal signals from people. I mention autism because NVLD is related to autism. They are both neurobiological disorders. The main difference between autism and NVLD is that NVLD isn’t in the Doctor’s Reference Manual for Diagnoses. I think that it will be considered a very high functioning form of autism. I am neither "a cat person" nor "a dog person"! I hate that people insist that it must be one or the other! I am "a paw person"! I love paws -- I have purses with paws all over them, backpacks with paw pr...(read more) |
