Entered the US Navy after High School and served in Vietnam returning to Manhattan in 1968. After graduating from Kansas State University I received a commission and returned to the Navy completing 25 years of service in 1991. I was assigned as a Naval Intelligence Officer.

Served in the United States Marine Corps, from 2002-2007 as a Machingunner with 1st BN 5TH Marines,Two tours of duty in Iraq, Fallujah 2004, and Ramadi 2005-06, and a third deployment to southeast Asia. Currently in Afghanistan.

Served as a special agent in the Office of the Inspector General before entering undergraduate pilot training. Flew 180 missions as a forward air controller in Southeast Asia. Other assignments included HQ Strategic Air Command, HQ Air Force, Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Retired at the grade of Colonel.
