About Roger Mutter was the quintessential nice guy. Everyone who knew him said the same. He said “Thank you” to every Doctor, Nurse, CNA, orderly, Visiting Nurse, waiter, waitress and salesperson he encountered. It was appreciated.

He went to Manchester Regional High School (Class of '67) and lettered in Football, Basketball & Track. The level of competition he engaged in eventually affected his knees, and he had at least eleven knee operations, starting at 14 years old. After he was injured in a work accident, he was declared disabled at 21.

He volunteered at DIAL (now Center for Independent Living) for 21 years. During this time, he became involved with the Jersey Wheelers, a Wheelchair Sports Team that participated in the Paralympics. In the beginning, he was a mechanic, but he eventually also competed, earning eleven medals, and as far as he knew, still held the record for the javelin thrown from a wheelchair.

He was a smoker for many years, and he had COPD and recently developed lung cancer, which unfortunately spread very quickly.

Roger can now run and jump again; he no longer needs his walker, is not winded, and is free from pain.

As was his wish for over fifty years, his body was donated to science. As his brother said, Roger is now in his first semester at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

He was loved by many and will be sorely missed. We were together for four years, and we laughed every day.

Rest in peace Roger (09/03/1948 - 06/10/2025)
