Lesley E. Zajac, a lifelong resident of Malden and a Certified Chimney Sweep, passed away on Thursday morning, December 15, 2016 with her loving family at her side, she was 71. Born in Malden, MA she was the daughter of the late Theodore & Dorothy (Sheppard) Hanscom.

Lesley was a longtime former owner and operator of “The Chimney Doctor of Concord, MA”, a well-known and respected chimney sweep business, with customers all over the greater Boston area that relied on their professional service for many years.
Lesley ran her company along with her husband Walter W. Zajac and her daughter, Nancy J. Zajac. When her health declined she turned the daily operation of the business over to her husband, Walter.

She was the Former President of the Massachusetts Chimney Sweep Guild, a member of the Board of Directors of the National Chimney Sweep Guild and a Certified Chimney Sweep herself.

Mrs. Zajac was a one-time President of the Junior Aid Association of Malden and a daughter of a founding member. She was a former member of the Zonta Inc. of Malden and a member of the Malden Victorian Society. She was a past Sunday school teacher of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Linden. Lesley loved spending time with her grandchildren exploring museums, going to the movies, exploring nature and long conversations. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing dominoes weekly and having sleepovers with the girls monthly at her brother-in-laws home. She enjoyed gathering with friends on long dog walks daily. Lesley was an avid speed reader with thousands of books that she has read. When she was finished she enjoyed donating them to local nursing homes or the Chelsea Soldiers Home.

Lesley is survived by her beloved husband Walter W. Zajac, she was the devoted mother Nancy J. Zajac and her husband Dennis P. Mallet of Everett, Leeann Marshall of TX. Loving sister of Eleanor A. Cooke and her husband Donald of Florida & Malden, Susan C. Bennett and her husband Russell of Florida she was the sister-in-law of Maureen & Michael P. DeVeau of Chelsea & William G. Scally of Malden. Cherished grandmother of James, Adam, Brandon, Brea, Bryce and great grandmother of Justin. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces& grandnephews and great-grandniece and her beloved “Mattie”.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Lesley E. VanDusen, and her sister’s Janet Frazier & Barbara Scally.

Funeral service will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Monday December 19, 2016 at 11AM. Interment in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden at a later date.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours in the funeral home on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 4-8 PM.
