About Obituary published in The Boston Globe:

TOBY RUTH COHEN

Of Weaverville, NC, Saturday, November 4, 2006, after a long brave fight with cancer. She leaves behind her husband Ron; daughter, Rochelle Reich & husband, Adam, and grandchildren Alex and Logan of Weaverville NC; daughter, Alyce Phinney and husband, Robert of Alexandria VA; sister Cindy Sper and brother in law Paul of Tampa, FL, and many nieces and nephews. Born and raised outside of Boston, Toby was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and began her career as an elementary school teacher. She later shifted to business ventures and started a temporary employment agency called Food Temps. She was involved with the Girl Scouts for over 25 years. Toby was a founding member of Congregation Bnai Shalom in Westboro, Toby and Ron relocated to Asheville in 1993, at which time they saw the need for wheelchair transportation and in 1995 founded Round-A-bout Transportation. Toby was at one time active with ACT in a variety of capacities. She served on the Buncombe County Transportation Board and was a volunteer at Emerald Ridge nursing home. Toby was active with Beth Israel Synagogue and its Sisterhood, with Hadassah, and was a board member of the Southern Branch of the Womens League of Conservative Jewish Women. Toby was a vital force in the Asheville and regional Jewish communities, and she will be greatly missed. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday at Lou Pollock Cemetery, immediately followed by a memorial service. Because Beth Israel Synagogue is a polling station, the memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Congregation Beth HaTephila, 43 North Liberty Street, with Rabbi Robert Cabelli officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Beth Israel Synagogue, Childrens Sabbath Fund, 229 Murdock Avenue, Asheville, NC 28804, or to Care Partners Hospice and Palliative Care, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent through the website at www.morrisfamilyfuneralhome.com
