David L. Barriss passed away on August 21, 2010. He was 64 years old.
Born in Indiana, PA, David was a longtime resident of Malden. He graduated from Malden High School Class of 1964 and was a member of the Malden High Tech Tourney Basketball Championship team having earned the MVP Award for the Tournament. David was an all around avid sports enthusiast of golf, pro football and college basketball and ran the Boston Marathon. He earned his undergraduate degree at Salem State and his Masters Degree from Suffolk University. David taught math for 35 years at Arlington Catholic High and the Northeast Metro Regional Vocational High School in Wakefield where he was also the long time coach of basketball, soccer and track.
David was the devoted husband of Patricia (McMahan) Barriss, his wife of 4 years. He was the beloved father of Jennifer Barriss-Paolini and her husband Michael of Saugus and the dear brother of Al Barriss and his wife Karen of Malden, Kathy Noyes-Ake and her husband Paige of Virginia Beach, VA, Cheryl Hastings of Haddon Township, NJ and Dick Barriss and his wife Louise of North Reading. David was the cherished grandfather of Isabella and Michael Paolini and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, numerous friends, classmates, colleagues and his former wife Elaine (Giuffre) Barriss.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 26th at the First Church of Christ Congregational Church, 25 Great Road, Bedford at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main Street, Malden on Wednesday, August 25th from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Davids memory may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Div. of Development & The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, Floor 6 Brookline, MA 02445-9924 or a charity of ones choice.
