About | Walter E. Dittman, age 86, of Daytona Beach, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 21, 2012. A visitation will be held at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, on Friday, July 27, 2012. The family will receive guests between the hours of 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 in the Chapel of Lohman Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m.; burial will immediately follow at Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors. Walter was born on October 9, 1925 in Daytona Beach to the late Nena and Frank Dittman, along with his twin, Robert. Walter has been a lifetime resident of Daytona, and was a 1943 graduate of Mainland High School. He was the founder and owner of Dittman Battery & Tire for more than 25 years. Walter was a veteran of World War II, and served his country proudly in the Army Air Corps. Walter was in the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary for many years where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was an active member of the American Legion serving in many leadership positions at Post 50 and Post 270 as past Post Commander. He also was a member of the 40/8 organization driving the locomotive in many parades. He was a check station attendant for over 25 years at the New Smyrna Beach Gun Club, Farmington Land Hunt Club and the Miami Land Co. Hunt Club. Walter was an avid hunter and fisherman. Predeceasing Walter was his loving wife Hariett (Granny) of 59 years, and 3 brothers. Walter is survived by his sister Evelyn Wellman Blais, (Michael); three children, Robert E. Dittman of S. Daytona, Richard L. of Dittman (Linda) of Port Orange, Linda Sue Mack (Thomas) of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Tammy Marie Liles (Bryan), Richard "Troy" Dittman (Michel), Robert "Boo" Dittman, Jason T. Dittman (Jodi), Todd D. Weingeroff (Angela); twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
