About | Memorial Service for Kenneth C. "Casey" Jones who passed away Tuesday, May 3 at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange will be 7pm (Today) Thursday, May 5 at the chapel of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Port Orange with Pastor Rob Hall officiating. A reception will follow. Mr. Jones was born in North Carolina in 1951, raised in Daytona Beach and graduated from Mainland High School in 1969. Casey joined the Air Force and was enlisted from 1970-1974. While enlisted, he specialized in Jet Engine mechanics. He served in Taiwan, Saigon, Vietnam, Thailand, and was stationed in K.I. Sawyer Michigan. Casey joined the local IBEW #756 electrical apprenticeship union in 1976 and worked in Nuclear Powerhouses and for electrical contractors. He also worked for the Volusia County School Board as an electrician and for the Department of Transportation as an electrical Maintenance Supervisor. In 2000, Casey began working at the Kennedy Space center were he enjoyed his job and he met many great friends. In 1980, Casey started Baseball Umpiring for various leagues from T-Ball to college baseball and he traveled to many fields to umpire including Sanford, Orlando, and Leesburg. Being an umpire was one of Casey's greatest passions in life, and he loved being called "Blue". He was considered the most consistent umpire by his peers and he especially enjoyed working for the Port Orange Leagues. He loved all the people and the games in Port Orange. In 1983 he started working at the Daytona International Speedway in the security department. He was a supervisor of Pit Road and Victory Lane. He later became security supervisor of the Sprint Cup garage. Casey met and befriended many of the stars of NASCAR. NASCAR was also one of his passions. He also loved motorcycles and owned many Harley's and his pride and joy was his Yamaha V-Max motorcycle (which he opened up more than his family wanted). He was a great storyteller like his father, Roy and he could keep you entertained for hours. Casey also had a laugh that you wouldn't forget. The last few years he enjoyed fishing and being surrounded by great friends and family. His last memorable adventure was skydiving in DeLand, FL in 2010. Casey attended Crossroads Baptist in Port Orange and Center Point Church of Holly Hill. Casey, your everlasting memory will always remain in our hearts. Survivors include, his wife, Sheila Howard, Ormond Beach; Mother, Helen Jones, Port Orange; three sons, Casey Jones, Guam, Royden and Kenneth Jones, both of South Daytona; one daughter, Robyn Jones, South Daytona; two sisters, Teresa (Richard) Cameron, and Jessica (Charles) Hill; three grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. Casey was preceded in death by his father, Roy S. Jones and a sister, Connie Jones King.
