About John A. Bornmann, 83, passed away at home of an apparent heart attack on January 21st. Born in Daytona Beach, Mr. Bornmann graduated from Mainland High School in 1945 where he was on the football team, tennis team and a member of Hi-Y. While at Mainland he met his wife, Lucille to whom he was married 66 years. A 40 year employee of Southern Bell, Mr. Bornmann served the community as a Boy Scout leader, a member of Civitan and served on the Zoning Board for New Smyrna Beach. He was also one of the volunteers who physically help build First United Methodist Church of New Smyrna Beach. Known as JJ to his grandchildren and their friends, Mr. Bornmann is survived by his wife, Lucille; son, Ret. Lt. Colonel John A. Bornmann, Jr. (Priscilla) of Alexandria, VA; daughter, Deborah B. Allen of Ormond Beach; son, Chris Bornmann of Ormond Beach and son, Mark Bornmann of Ashville, NC; grandchildren, Kirsten Fontenrose of Washington, DC, John A. Bornmann,III of New Orleans, John C. Allen,III of Tallahassee, Jessica Melakian (Phil) of Ormond Beach, Christina Bornmann of Port Orange, Randy Bornmann of Tallahassee and great grandchildren, John A. Bornmann, IV, Isaac Melakian and Rebecca Melakian. A celebration of his life will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 5th in the chapel at Haigh-Black Funeral Home, 167 Vining Court, Ormond Beach.
