About Barbara Lewis Renner, 77, Ormond Beach, died on September 3, 2009, at Florida Hospital Oceanside Hospice Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by sons, John and Timmy, brother, Ted Lewis, W. E. "Buzz" Renner, and Parents, Felton and Eunice Lewis. Mrs. Renner's life was filled with selfless love for family, devotion to her church, excellence in her professional career, and enjoyment of friends and coworkers. Trinity Lutheran Church of Holly Hill was one of the loves of her life. She had a dream for the children of her church community and, as a result, founded the Trinity Lutheran Church School. In addition to her five years as a volunteer in Nancy Sweringen's pre-K classroom, she served as chairman of the church School Board of Christian Ed, church social chairwoman & social minister for many years. Trinity's Pastor Frederick Schultz summarized her contribution to her church, describing Mrs. Renner as the matriarch of Trinity and the fabric of Trinity Lutheran Church School. She also volunteered as assistant to the Early Learning Coalition of Volusia and Flagler Counties who recognized her as Volunteer of the year in 2007. All who knew Mrs. Renner realize she lived her life by Christian ideals, always intent on caring for and serving others. Mrs. Renner was born in Daytona Beach and was a life resident of the Halifax area. She was a member of the Mainland High School class of 1949, the "Forty-niners." Mrs. Renner spent 32 highly successful years with the Volusia County School Board, serving as secretary at Riverview and Tomoka elementaries, Office manager of the John Smiley Educational Development Center (EDC), and finally as a Personnel Department specialist in charge of interviewing and hiring new district teachers. Surviving Mrs. Renner are son, Larry, Ormond Beach; and grandchildren, Todd and Stephanie; son, Ken; and granddaughter, Rebecca, Port Orange; and daughter, Barbara Shepard, Summerfield, FL, son-in-law, Emery; and grandchildren, Jeremy and Aimee; and numerous cousins and dear friends. A memorial service honoring Mrs. Renner will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1205 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill, FL 32117-2721 at noon on Saturday, September 19. A reception at the church will follow. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Trinity Lutheran School.
