| About Me | What can I say about myself? I am a beautiful, self-possessed, intelligent woman with a dynamic drive to live an eventful life worth writing about. Well, at least that is who I'd like to be all of the time. I do not always succeed, but I guess that is part of the human experience. I am a true Gemini. I love to communicate with people; I can see the flip side of most issues (with the exception of the political/ religious/ moral dogmatism held by most right wing conservatives-- I just cannot understand their thinking). I can be serious about a lot of things, and still take off on flights of whimsy. I love to learn about anything and everything, except math theorems, which I find terribly boring (math has never been my passion). Talk to me about people, art, history, education, religion, magic, music, movies, books, poetry, mythologies, the creative process, travel, memoirs, culture, and you have my attention. Who we are... Where we come from... How we express ourselves and why... the questions are endless and fascinating, and the answers nimble, and sometimes difficult to hold on to, which can make for a very interesting, frustrating, quixotic journey that is no more endless or fascinating than the questions themselves. So for the practical information: I am thirty-four, an English teacher/ tutor, the eldest of three, with an awesome, 100% Puerto Rican mom. I am single, with no children as of yet. I want to be married with at least three or four children someday. For now, I have a German Chihuahua-dachshund mix by the name of Ava. I also took in a little stray puppy that an evil, twisted kid was chasing around with a bat. Her name is Kiara. She should wear a tag saying “I like to do bad things," because she has chewed up more shoes than I care to count. She is too cute, though. So cute in fact that a neighborhood dog thought so too and in February 2011 she gave birth to 3 puppies: Quinn, Meagan, and Nelson. Baby Quinn later passed away, and a new Chihuahua puppy fell into our “gang,” so I am the proud owner of 5 spoiled "mutts." They, together with my students, are like my children. In June 2009, I embarked on a huge new adventure: I MOVED TO PUERTO RICO! I was born in Puerto Rico, and lived the first 4 years of my life there. However, I grew up in Texas. Since my family moved to Texas, I had only been to Puerto Rico a handful of times. Each time I arrived, and I would be in the car driving to one or another relative's home, I would look out at the hills, and hear the music and everyone talking at the same time, and there would be such a sense of belonging, of peace. It is strange to describe. After all, can you really belong to a place you've never been? In any case, I felt like I needed a major change in my life, and when the opportunity came up, I accepted. So, I moved out of the city I lived in almost my entire life, and started on a completely new journey. It has led me to experiences and opportunities I had only dreamed of previously, including the opportunity to teach and to return to school and to continue studying. My goals are to complete my post-graduate degree in English literature and to travel to Europe. It seems that life is always bringing about big changes when you least exp...(read more) |
