| About Me | I enlisted in the LANG for a period of 8 and 1/2 months. Shortly after, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. I attended boot camp twice, once for the Army and once for the Navy. After boot camp, I was given orders to NAS Whidbey Island, Washington, State. After serving duty there and changing rate, I was transferred to Midway Island in the Pacific Ocean. After making rate, the 7th fleet decided that I needed to spend some time on board ship. The Navy then cut my orders for me to report to the USS Enterprise. I reported and went on board in Alameda, California. The Big "E" prepared to go to Vietnam, providing air strikes to decrease the amount of fire power that North Vietnam had over us. After serving our 6 month tour of duty, we went back to our home base. While there, we prepared to go back over seas once again proceeding with our previous mission. After completing this encounter. We returned to Honolulu, Hawaii to get some well deserved rest and relaxation. Shortly after we had orders to start preparing for another tour in Vietnam. During the course of these operations, there were a number of explosions on the Big "E". After fighting fires, shoveling body parts of the dead and placing them in body bags, assessing the number of injured; we returned to Honolulu, Hawaii where the damages to the Big "E" was assessed. There it was determined that we dry dock in Bremerton, Washington and make the necessary repairs for another trip to Vietnam. At this point my tour of duty was about to expire. I received orders to California, where I was supposedly cleansed of my thoughts and actions while I served in Vietnam. Shortly after the service, I hired on with a Construction company. I traveled as a Construction worker. Received 1st Foreman's position in 1970. From then on, it was uphill. During my last few years in the Construction industry, I chose to become a Industrial Inspector, performing visuals, on hand, testing procedures ( mag particle, UT, PT, etc.) I retired in 2007, spent time with my oldest daughter and grandchildren in Texas I then moved to New Iberia where my youngest daughter and granddaughter lives and spent some time with them. I then left and moved to Ascension Parish, La. and acquired a part time position at the local Unemployment office for a little over three years. I now am receiving some training to do some Over The Road Emergency driving for the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The LaWorkforce bought two (2) Recreational Vehicles that was customized to assist Unemployment, Layoffs, Hurricane assistance, job fairs and other assistance that Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi might need. I am just trying to keep myself busy doing other things, mainly not just lyi...(read more) |
