| About Me | In my post High School years I joined the service and had quiet an adventure. It all started when at the tender age of eighteen when I strolled into a recruiter’s office and took the test. The next thing I knew, after a short train ride, a Fort Knox Drill Sergeant greeted me with a big grin. Ft Knox was also were snow greeted me for the first time. After Basic and Advance Individual Training our 1st Sgt gave us our duty assignment orders. Mine were for the Berlin Bde. Berlin Germany! Where was Berlin? I must have slept through that class. Later I learned it was one Hundred and ten miles inside Soviet territory. I was told that Berlin was a choice assignment and because of my qualifications/class standing, I was selected. So from 77 – 80 we enjoyed the European cuisine. I say we because there I met and married my current/only wife (Silvia) of 30 years and we had our first son (Randall Jr). There I was able to venture into the communist East Berlin and later witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall. During this tour a southern boy learned to art of snow skiing and white water rafting. Since, I have skied Berchasgarden Garmisch, Black Forest, Zugspits and Wasatch Mt. in UT. After three years in Berlin I joined the Air Force and was stationed at Keesler AFB MS. It was a boring but a happy time as we added a son (Benjamin) and a daughter (Rebecca). I decided to leave the Air Force and fly helicopters for the Army. After Warrant Officer Candidate School and Flight School at Ft Rucker, I was assigned to Finthen Army Airfield flying AH1 Cobra Gunships. Finthen AAF is located west of Frankfurt. Four years later I was transferred to Fliegerhorst AAF flying OH58D AHIP. During that tour we traveled all over Germany, Holland, Austria and Italy. We visited Wittenberg where Martin Luther’s 95 theses were nailed to the door, Countless castles along the Rhine River, Coliseum and The Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, Triar, Roman Reins along the Limes and museums. The last four years of my army career were spent at Ft Hood Texas flying OH-58D Warriors, Armed Scout Helicopters. There I retired at the rank of CW3 and proceeded to find a new path to walk. I found a job working with Shadow Unmanned Air Vehicle. This job has taken me along the east coast and to Barhan, Qatar, Kuwait and Iraq x3 as a Field Service Rep contractor. Silvia opened a small estitision business in the town we live in. Our future plans are in to retire ...(read more) |
