Donald Lee Bechtel was born February 4, 1958 in Wichita, Kansas at McConnell Air Force Base. He is the eldest son of five boys and one girl born to the late Harold and Delores (Hurt) Bechtel. Mr. Bechtel served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve from 1979 until 2004 when he was honorably discharged from active service. He served in Wildflecken, West Germany; Fort Riley, KS, and various Army Reserves units located in New Mexico, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was an Infantry Rifleman and Unit Supply Sergeant. Mr. Bechtel served in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm with 387th Engineer Company from Albuquerque, NM. In 2001, he served with the 414th Military Police Company from Joplin, MO, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was also stationed at FT Benning, GA in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
