Favorite School Memory My favorite memories are playing music in the bands and singing in the choruses under Ann Recaldini, Norman O'Hara and Howard Willaman; reading in the library, supervised by Jack Luskay; debating current events in class with Lee Henderson; and performing in "Mr. Hobbes Takes a Vacation", directed by Ralph Kurtz. About Me Upon graduation, I attended the United States Naval Academy for two years, was separated for academic reasons in 1972 and then finished my degree at the University of Rhode Island in 1976. My first job in education was at the Pine Ridge School (for emotionally disturbed students with learning disabilities) in Williston, Vermont. Since 1977, I have been teaching history and coaching football at Thayer Academy in Braintree, MA. In the mid-1990's, I became one of the Academy's archivists and am now the head. Since 2001, I have also been coaching the throwing events for the Academy's track and field team. I met my wife Barbara at the University of Rhode Island when we were undergraduates; she has since worked both in the publishing field, in rare books, in education (recently in teaching ESL) and is an accomplished poet and translator, having graduated from Vermont College with an M.F.A in the early 1990's. We have three children: Emmett who graduated from Thayer Academy, 2002, from Princeton in 2006 (Astrophysics), recently from University of Richmond, VA (Liberal Arts) and teaches mathematics and coaches football and track and field at St. Christopher's School, also in Richmond; Lily, who graduated from Thayer Academy in 2005, from the Art Institute of Boston/Lesley University in 2009 (Photography) and is currently studying to be a massage therapist in Boston; and Lizzy, who graduated from Thayer Academy in 2010 and is attending the University of Vermont and studying...(read more)
