About Me	"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.--Dr. Seuss Oh, dear! I am the oldest of three girls, raised in a small, guarded town during the mid-fifties and sixties. We then moved to the thriving metropolis of Washington, D.C. where we finished high school and became much more aware of the "real world". I matriculated to the University of Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg , VA, where I received a degree in psychology and education, and an education in real people. I have now taught preschool through high school in preschool through high school through high school in regular and special education. Also, I have specialized in special education, educational diagnostician, and reading specialist. I loved being a diagnostician the best. I had to give that up to move to DE with this significant other whom I though would be productive and much better than my ex-husband. No such luck, so I am still here in DE and trying to get back to VA to finish out my teaching time there. Plus, the rest of my family and my grown son are there. My mother died before Mother's Day this past year of lung cancer--she went very fast, and I am 6-7 hours from my dad who is deaf, but very self-sufficient, but stubborn. My grown son, Matt, lives in Stephens City, and works for the federal government. I am very proud of him, as he has endured quite a bit during his earlier life. Presently, I teach at a technical high school with academic curriculum--very much pressure to shine and be perfect. I teach shared approach SPED--go out into the regular classrooms and help SPED students who need a minimum amount of asistance. It is a lot of work, plus we do all the paperwork for a group of SPED students. It is the federal government in all its glory--the paperwork! I live in a small town in the western part of the largest county--about 45 minutes from the glorious beaches of DE. I never go to the beach--it is too crowded and the traffic is too congested. Many of my friends live over there. Of course, cost of living, price of everything is monstrous over there! Nothing goes on much on this side of the county. I tend to my garden and plants when the weather is nice and sit on my deck and relax as long as it is not too hot. This coming summer may not be too fun. I may have to have my knees replaced then. I am not even an athlete and have had 3 surgeries on them already! I also have something congenitally wrong with my back which my have to be dealt with this summer, too. Feel like I am falling apart and I am too young!! I know that there are a lot of individuals on FACEBOOK who know me. Don't worry; you are not obligated to talk with me or say you know me. I decided to come on to meet people, and maybe find people I haven't seen in a long time , or renew old friendships. So, take care.Latest update as of July-- I have retired from teaching as of July 1. I now have a new grandson--Nikolas Helms, born April 22, 2012 to my son and his wife. He his a cutie. Don't know what I will be doing yet, but it won't be related to education right now. Want to do some reading and have been working in my garden. Would like to visit some of my college friends and go to my 40th college reunion next May with one of my good friends. Hope to move back ...(read more)
