Doug Bidwell
Class of 1964
During LHS, worked part time at Cary Memorial Library, and Registered with Selective Service System, as was the law... In 1964, men were given four years for college, as long as they maintained good grades and full-time student status Doug attended Graceland College and The University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Meanwhile, our Classmate, Cleveland Bridgeman, LHS, 1964, was the first classmate/vet, to die, killed in US Army in Vietnam War... God bless him, for he had entered Army just after High School...
Doug was called out of Grad School by the Lexington Selective Service Board 109 in the Fall of 1968, and entered USAF Active Duty, and became an Academic Instructor in Texas, and later was transferred to the USAF Academy Library in Colorado Springs, for three years. Then he returned to the University of Illinois Grad School of Library and Information Science to complete his MSLS Degree, as a Veteran, free-of-charge....
Later, he continued as a Career NCO in the USAF, having been posted in Colorado, South Carolina, Turkey, Germany, and ending up at Loring AFB, Caribou, Maine, in 1988.
