| Favorite School Memory | Having so many friends gathered in one place on a daily basis. Unfortunately, my least favorite high school memory is that my grades reflected what I loved most about high school :-) |
| About Me | After high school, I continued to work at the Kroger grocery store on Oakwood Ave until June `92. That was my first job. I kept it during my junior and senior years at Lee and during the "eight year plan" for college. I wouldn't have actively chosen such a long plan to earn my BS, but wouldn't do things differently if given the chance now since I met my wife on aisle 13 of that store while working there. I spent three years enlisted as an x-ray tech in the Army Reserves and, after college and ROTC, served as an active duty Army officer for 7 years. I got out of the Army in Colorado and we loved it so much that we stayed there for an additional 5 years as I worked as a software engineer for New Era of Networks which was acquired by Sybase. Once my daughter reached the age of 5, we decided to move back to Alabama so she could grow up knowing her great grandparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. If our roots aren't too deep once we become "empty nesters", the lure of Colorado may take us back there. I had a mid-eight year plan crisis and decided to enlist in the U.S. Army Reserves. I spent a year on active duty for basic training at Fort Knox, KY, and x-ray technician training at Fort Sam Houston, TX. I served three years in the Reserves with the 75th Field Hospital in Huntsville. After returning from my Army training and resuming work at Kroger, I decided to get serious about school. I accepted an ROTC scholarship and picked up a full-time course load at UAH. As I mentioned, I met my wife-to-be and we married on 12/16/89. After graduating from UAH in 1992, I went on active duty as a second lieutenant in the Army. I served for seven years before leaving the service in June 1999. We decided to continue living in Colorado, where I ended my service. My career change led to work as a software engineer. My wife started her career as a teacher in Colorado. Once our daughter reached age five, we realized we needed to return to Alabama so our daughter could grow up having a closer relationship with grandparents, aunts/uncles, and cousins. So, after living ten years in Colorado, we returned to Alabama in 2005. My wife continues to teach. I took a position as a program specialist where I could combine my health care administration experience form the Army with my education and software engineering experience. Life continues to fly by...(read more) |
