I retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the Coast Guard after 21 years as Operations Officer on a 179' Coastal Patrol Boat. Maritime Law Enforcement, Search and Rescue is where I spent most my career. I currently reside near Cleveland, Ohio.

I enlisted in the US Navy on 01/04/1966. I went through basic training at NTC San Diego, CA. I then attended 'A' School, Hospital Corps School, at Balboa Hospital in San Diego. I attended 'C' school, Fleet Medical School, at Camp Pendelton, CA. I was then sent to Oaknoll Navy Hospital for further training. In October 1967, I was ordered to III MAF Republic of Vietnam. I arrived in early December and assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Battalion/9th Regiment, III Marine Division. I spent my time as a Company Corpsman in the bush with the Grunts until August of '68. I was injured during a operation in Leatherneck Square and sent to Charlie Med to rehab. After being released back to duty, I was transfered to H&S Company, 3rd Tank Battalion for the duration of my tour. After returning to the states, I was posted to Navy Training Center at the Great Lakes, IL. I was put in charge of the Medical Holding Company until being Honorably Discharged on February 2, 1970.

I enlisted in 2000 into active duty Navy, almost in 9 years working in the medical department. I have done 4 deployments-2 (4years total onboard) on the USS Porter a naval destroyer and 2 to the HOA/Kuwait/Iraq areas. I am currently on PCS orders to Hawaii and cant wait to do my next 10 years of service

I joined the Infantry in 1992 as a member of the Iowa National Guard stationed in Le Mars after two year I transferred to the Florida National guard and two years after I went active duty in 1996 stationed in Germany with the 1/4 Infantry until Aug 2000 when I served with the 101st until 2001. after that I have gotten My BA in New Media and now going after my MFA in Film and Television.

Air Force, 20+ Years

Virginia was an avionics technician on fighter aircraft and continued her career as a training manager and an award wining recruiter. She served in several US locations and in Spain. Following her retirement from the USAF, she continued to wear the uniform and served as a Junior ROTC instructor. She and her husband Mark (Class of 1970) went on to serve in Peace Corps (2005-2007) and then in AmeriCorps*VISTA (currenty). ,
