Jason passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025, in Oklahoma City, OK after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Jason was born on May 27, 1973, in Fort Sill, OK to John and Kathy (Ivey) Cumbey. As the oldest of three children, he felt it was his duty to endlessly tease his sisters growing up. It is unknown how his mom kept her job with how many arguments she had to referee during the summertime. But those years evolved into some of the strongest bonds siblings can share, and his sisters are grateful for the many hours they were able to spend with him at the end of his life. He was the first to tell them he loved them during any conversation.
Jason lived his entire life in Lawton, OK, if we don’t count the three weeks he and his friends packed up and moved to California. All his other life adventures kept him closer to home. Jason graduated from Lawton High School in 1991. Not sure who was happier with this feat - Jason, the school faculty, or his parents.
To know Jason was to laugh with him, and sometimes at him. He was the kind of friend who showed up, stayed late, and was always ready to give a helping hand. Jason was enthusiastic OU, Pittsburgh Steeler (even through many hard years) and OKC Thunder fan. His knowledge and expertise led him to be a competitive contender each year in fantasy football. In addition, you could find him on the lake with a pole in his hand or checking the jug lines with friends. When not outdoors, he had skill both on the pool table and dartboard. Jason worked many years along side many friends at Lockwood and Sons and became a valuable asset. While running his own crew, he took pride in the craftsmanship and had an understanding that work was more than just a job—it was an expression of who he was. He knew the importance of doing things well, regardless of how big or small the task at hand. Jason gave us so much to remember—his strength, his humor, his heart. His loss will be felt for years to come by so many who had the privilege to know him.
He is survived by his parents; his sisters, Christy and Michael Cloutier of Yukon, OK, Jessica and Kody Wade of Lawton, OK; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Emily Cloutier, Haley Cloutier, Kenli Wade, Jaxon Wade and Kason Wade. In addition, Jason leaves behind numerous friends and family, including girlfriend, Jackie Izdepski.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents James “Wes” and Charlotte “Nanny” Ivey, paternal grandparents Jim and Mary Cumbey, Edmond “Ed” McKay, Cleta Lunsford and many other extended family members.
His family has been overwhelmed and humbled by all the outpouring of support from all those Jason meant so much to.
Many thanks to all the medical professionals at Integris Baptist Hospital and Cancer Center who worked endlessly with Jason and his family the last 7 weeks. Last but not least, to all the friends who worked tirelessly to host several benefits for Jason to help in his fight, including VFW 5263 and The Office.
Until we meet again, enjoy ballgames with Nanny.
