What is James Trapp known for?

James Trapp, born on December 28, 1969 in Greenville, South Carolina, is a renowned former American sprinter and professional NFL player. As a high school athletics star in Lawton, Oklahoma, Trapp's career took off as he became a High School All-American from 1988-1989, a State Champion in Football in 1988, and Track and Field Oklahoma State High School Champion in several categories from 1986-1989.

Following his high school success, Trapp continued his athletic journey at Clemson University. He was a 12-time All-American and an ACC Champion from 1990-1992 in indoor and outdoor 200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m as part of the Clemson Relay Teams. This led to his participation in the 1991 USA team, where he competed in the 4x100m Relay at the Panam Games in Birmingham, England. Trapp's crowning achievement in track came in 1992 when he became the Indoor NCAA 200m Champion at the National Championship. Furthermore, he was an Olympian, being a member of the 4x100m relay team at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.

In 1993, Trapp took home the gold medal at the Indoor 200m World Championship held in Toronto, Canada. He also became the Indoor World Champion and World Record Holder as a member of the USA Team's Sprint Medley. His personal bests are quite impressive with 9.97 seconds in the 100 meters and 19.92 seconds in the 200 meters, along with 6.11 seconds in the 55 meters.

Transitioning to American football, Trapp was drafted by the Los Angeles Raiders in the 3rd round of the 1993 NFL Draft. He played for the Raiders from 1993 to 1998, then moved to the Baltimore Ravens from 1999 to 2003, and played a brief stint for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2004. During his football career, Trapp made significant contributions to his teams, with career NFL statistics showing 324 tackles, 6 sacks, and 9 interceptions. His performance on the field earned him the title of the "NFL's Fastest Man" in 1995 and 1996. In addition, he clinched a Super Bowl ring while playing for the Baltimore Ravens in the 2000 season.

Post-athlete life saw Trapp as the co-owner and Facility Coordinator for D1 Sports Training and The Dungeon in his native town of Greenville, SC.
