About On September 20, 2023, Lisa Diane Schmadeke Svenstrup, passed away peacefully in the arms of her children at the age of 67. Lisa was born on June 28, 1956, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the second oldest of five children to Diane and Bill Schmadeke. Lisa lived an extraordinary life, filled with adventure, laughter, and love.

While attending Indiana University Bloomington, she was a member of the IU Red Steppers, IU Student Foundation, and Chi Omega Sorority where she served as social chairman. After graduating with a degree in marketing from the School of Business, Lisa went on to work in sales for three Fortune 500 companies. In the theme of 500, Lisa also had the honor of being selected as a 1978 Indianapolis 500 Princess. She took a break from her career to raise her children. In later years, she found her calling in energy healing, impacting countless lives.

Forever proud of her children, touting them as “her greatest accomplishments,” Lisa was a devoted mother and grandmother. She looked forward to visits from her kids and instilled in them a love for God and travel. Lisa had an excellent memory and told entertaining stories, sometimes with a hint of exaggeration which she referred to as “flare”. With her family by her side, she enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Racoon Lake, Lake Monroe, Rhinelander, and Gulf Shores.

In a word, Lisa’s energy was magnetic, the life of every party. As an award-winning public speaker, she honed her skills as a member of Toastmasters. She was a well-known fixture in Indianapolis speaking circuit for years.

She lived for Euchre. She lived for pickleball. She lived for all things skiing: jet skiing, waterskiing, and snow skiing. She lived. She especially took pleasure in these activities in the company of her good friends.

Even after all of these triumphs, she said her most significant achievement was having a lifelong personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She was highly involved in several churches and life groups. She will be remembered for all the heart she shared with family and friends. She truly loved each of them- and if you knew her, you knew you were loved. When her time came, she carried herself with dignity, strength, and an eagerness to see loved ones who went before her in Heaven.

Lisa is survived by her loving four children Lauren (husband Jim), Kristen (husband Carlo), Carly (husband Linh), Thomas (wife Coco), three grandchildren Maeve (3), Iris (1), and Emma (1), and four siblings Kurt, Lynn, Rick, and Bill. She was preceded in death by her parents and her late husband, Doug McGarvey. She will be missed by so many and will always remain in our hearts as a fun-loving mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend.

Please join us to celebrate our mother’s extraordinary life on Monday, September 25th at Flanner Buchanan- Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Good Shepherd Chapel (9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250). Visitation begins at 1 p.m., and service follows at 3 p.m. The service will be performed by Pastor Don Bates of Independent Nazarene Church. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Washington Township Young Life. Thank you for all of the support, kind words, and prayers over the last few years and especially days.
