Graduated from U of Delaware in 1970 and commissioned in Field Artillery. Served at Fort Dix, NJ; Korea; Fort Lewis, WA; Fort Sill, OK; Presidio of Monterrey, CA; Germany (2 tours 7 years total); Fort Sam Houston, TX; Fort Leavenworth, KS; and Fort Bragg, NC. Commanded Artillery Batteries in Korea and Fort Lewis, WA and a Warhead Detachment in Germany with the Belgians. Served with 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment in Germany. Professor of Military Science at UNC-Wilmington. Have taught JROTC since 1993 in Whiteville, NC and presently at North Brunswick HS in Leland, NC. Live in Wilmington, NC. Married to former Susan Burd and have two sons and a daughter. Youngest son is married and is just completing 8 years in the Army Reserve.

CSM Martin D. Kelley is a native of Laurel, Delaware; He entered the United States Army in October1986 and completed One Station Unit Training as an Armored Reconnaissance Specialist at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

His stateside assignments include tours with 3-17th Cavalry at Fort Drum, New York; 2d Armored Division, and III Corps NCO Academy, Fort Hood, Texas; 5-15th Cavalry Regiment, Fort Knox, Kentucky; 1-10 Cavalry, 4th Infantry, Division, Fort Hood, Texas; and 2-9 Cavalry, 3d BCT, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, CO. His overseas assignments include 3d Squadron, 11th ACR, Badhersfeld, Germany, 1st Squadron 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Buedigen, Germany. His combat tours include one tour to Bosnia from December 1995 to 1996, OIF I, OIF V and OIF VIII.

CSM Kelley has attended various military schools to include the French Mountaineering Course, PLDC, BNCOC, ANCOC, Sergeants Major Academy (class 58), Master Fitness Course, Air Assault Course, and the Drill Sergeant Course. He holds
A Bachelor Degree in Science from Excelsior University and is 9 credits shy of his Masters Degree in Education from North Central University.

CSM Kelley has served in numerous leadership and staff positions in the Cavalry and Armor Fields including Bradley Commander, Section Sergeant, PLDC Instructor, Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Operations Sergeant Major and CSM for 2-9 Cavalry, 3d Brigade Combat Team, Operations Sergeant Major and CSM for 1-10 Cavalry, 2d Brigade Combat Team. His most recent assignment is the Command Sergeant Major for 1-66 Armor, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, CO.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, 2 OLC; the Meritorious Service Medal, 3rd OLC; the Army Commendation Medal with V Device and 3 OLC; the Army Achievement Medal 9 OCL, the Good Conduct Medal 7th Award, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with 4 stars, the NATO Service Medal, Drill Sergeant Badge, Air Assault Badge, German Marksmanship (Gold) and the Combat Action Badge. CSM Kelley is also a recipient of the Armor Association’s Honorable Order of Saint George.

CSM Kelley is married to the former Michele D. Conklin, now MSG Michele Kelley, of Munnsville, New York. The Kelley’s have two children SPC Brandon Kelley, 24, and Megan, 16. They reside in Penrose, CO on a small ranch with their Corgi, Sheldon, two horses, Georgie and Buddy along with two barn cats, Whitey and White Paws.

Entered the U.S. Naval Academy June 30,1964 after graduating from LHS; graduated from the Naval Academy in June 1968; spent 27 years as a Surface Warfare Officer, Commanding the USS Reasoner (FF 1063) and the Fleet Combat Training Center Pacific during Operation Desert Storm; graduated from the U.S. Navy Postgraduate School and obtained a M.S. in Operational Systems Technology

Served aboard Ballistic Missile Submarine USS Daniel Boone SSBN 629B as a Sonar Technician from 1972-74, Served with Naval Reserve Unit MIUWU 604/204 in Lewes DE from 1974-1994 as Ocean Systems Technician. OTA1(SS).
