Included in that time is 27 months deployed to South Western Baghdad in Iraq, and 13 months deployed to the demilitarized zone separating North and South Korea. He was awarded numerous service medals for his time in the Army, but what stands out most is his Bronze Star Medal that was awarded because of combat action in Iraq during his most recent deployment. Class of 1975
Navy, 7 Years
Came in as a E-1, (May 1979 ) and went to Pearl Harbor HI and drove tour boats out to the Arizona Memorial.I had a blast doing this.
Took my Petty Officer exam and passed and went to Charleston Naval Base. My rate was a Storekeeper , and learned how to drive forklifts and was stationed as support for the USS Canopus, a submarine tender ,which supplied the submarines. In 1983, I got out of active duty and went into the Naval Reserves as an E-5 and took my test for E-6 Petty Officer 1st Class Storekeeper. My duty station was COMINWARCOM which served to support the mineswepper fleet . I left the Reserves in 1987, due to having children and a husband who was also in the Navy as an officer who was on submarines.
I loved the Navy and would recommend to anyone who doen't know what they want to do in life. It was a very good experience for me and I grew up and was on my own. I had pride in myself and in my country.
