| About Me | Well...after High School I attended Central Michigan University for my first 2 years of college. Then I transferred to Walsh College to complete my last two years, receiving a Bachelor's degree in Finance and Business Administration. My first job out of college was working as a pricing analyst and contract administrator with Williams International in Walled Lake Michigan. I worked at Williams until approximately 1988 and then took a position with Hughes Aircraft in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. During my tenure at Hughes I had various overseas assignments/positions including working on the START II Treaty that took me to Russia and the Ukraine as Russia and the US became new best friends following the coming down of the wall in Berlin, Germany. I met my wife on a blind-date in 1990 and after 3 months proposed. We have three daughters 18, 16 and 10. After working for Hughes Aircraft for 10 years I left the company in 1997 and went to work for another Government Contractor named ENSCO, Inc. During my employment I took a transfer to their Upstate NY office located in Binghamton NY in the Summer of 1999, my family and I lived in a little town called Elmira just south of the Finger Lakes during this period. During that time I had various career upgrades and by the time I left in 2009 I had become a member of ENSCO's Executive Staff. I left in 2009 to find a job that would allow me to spend more time with my daughters since my work took me away from my home often and I realized (slow learner) that I was missing out on a lot of various things with my family that I could not get back (yesterday is gone and you can't get it back). I took a non-managerial position with a small company (KAYA Associates) in Huntsville, AL in the summer of 2009. After living primarily in the Northern part of the country for the bulk of my life (except for Northern Virginia) I also liked the idea of getting into a little warmer climate and getting geographically closer to my parents who live in Sarasota, FL. Huntsville, AL is an interesting place. If you say that your living in Alabama to most people it conjures up the perception of a backwater type state both in academics and social graces. However, Huntsville, AL is kind of a little island onto itself. The "Redstone Arsenal" and the birthplace of the rockets that powered most of the space missions to the moon were developed here as are hundreds of high tech firms involved with various aspects of the space program and the defense industry. Most people familiar with the area know it as the place where Werner Von Braun brought German technology to the United States in the late 40's following the Second World War and was a primary driver in the success of the Apollo mission/landing on the Moon. Anyway, the area on a smaller scale is not unlike what you will find in the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. A lot of high-tech R&D and a whose who of various research firms. Anyway, that is a thumbnail sketch of my life up to this point. I'll be turning 49 in July of this year and can't believe how quickly the period between High School and now has flown by (I think part of that is due to the fact that there are less markers to define the various time periods that we have as we progress through school. You know you are getting older when you start planning for your retirement. I'm kind of in that period of my life where I'm too young to be old but too old to be young. God Spee...(read more) |
