About | Marilyn Thayer Obituary Marilyn E. Thayer VIRGINIA BEACH - Marilyn Earman Thayer, 57, passed away in her home April 27, 2008. She was surrounded by her most cherished loved ones. Marilyn was born in Harrisonburg, Va., to the late Charles E. Earman Jr. and Jane Kaylor Evans. Marilyn was a graduate of Lake Taylor High School and attended Radford University, formerly Radford College and Virginia Wesleyan College. Marilyn began her career as a secretary at Kaufman Brothers Brokerage Firm and then went on to be an executive secretary at the Tidewater Virginia Development Council. Marilyn evolved into a very successful career in various sales and marketing positions including roles for Bell South of North Carolina, Video Express and the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Marilyn spent her last years as a professional and very devoted grandmother. She is survived by her long adoring husband and best friend, Royal Cranford Thayer Jr.; her mother and stepfather, Jane Kaylor Evans and J. Norwood Evans of Virginia Beach; her mother-in-law, Frances Dugger Thayer of Virginia Beach; her sister and brother- in-law, Ann Earman Greeder and Arthur F. Greeder III of Virginia Beach; her brother, Charles E Earman III of Shenandoah, Va.; her brother-in-law, Eugene Dugger Thayer of Norfolk; her son and daughter-in-law, Jamie Voorhies and Michelle McFarland Voorhies of Silver Springs, Md.; her daughter, Ann Kaylor Voorhies of Virginia Beach; her stepdaughter, Sara Thayer Popovich of Suffolk; her stepdaughter, Mary Thayer Gale of Chesterfield, Va.; her nephew, Richard Shane Greeder of El Paso, Texas; her niece, Kara Greeder Aycock of Chapel Hill, N.C.; her grandson, Jackson Walker Stoots of Virginia Beach; and her grandson, Alexander Conrad Popovich of Suffolk. The family would like to extend a warm thanks to all of the loving and compassionate nurses and aides of the fourth floor east wing of Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Virginia Beach United Methodist Church, 19th Street and Pacific Avenue. The family asks in honor of Marilyn's unique spirit, that all present at the service wear a touch of pink. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Marilyn's deep love of children, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. |
