About William Wheeler Deckert, 64, of Harrison Township, died peacefully Friday, June 27, 2008, in St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital Macomb Center Warren, surrounded by his friends and family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 15, 1944, in Detroit.Mr. Deckert retired after 32 years of employment with Lake Shore Public Schools as an educator, coach, and student government adviser. Following retirement he worked as a sales representative for Signature Sports and Promotions.

He enjoyed his special companion, Smokey, playing golf, and watching sports, especially the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers and NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed his cottage in Huron Beach and spending time with his family and friends. His family said he will be missed by many people.
Mr. Deckert is survived by his wife, Kathleen (nee Nicholson); brother, Jeff (Deborah); mother-in-law, Winifred Nicholson; brothers-in-law, Ken (Debra) Nicholson and Dan (Colette) Nicholson; step-sisters, Marlene (John) Jensen, Judy (Roger) Briney and Carole (Len) Harbrucker; and nieces and nephews, Tim, Suzanne (Andy Fowler), Saundra, Heather, Rachel, and Emma.

He was predeceased by his parents, Irwin and Betty Deckert; and niece, Megan.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 18720 13 Mile Road, Roseville. Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores. Additional visitation is 10-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be addressed to Lake Shore High School Athletic Department, the Eggleston Foundation or St. John Hospice. Memories may be shared with the family at www.kaulfuneralhome.com.
