About	July 11, 1953 to September 27, 2011 Sheleigh stayed in the LaPorte area after graduation. She married Steve Carmichael and they had two children. She had a very successful and rewarding career as a theatre arts professional. She taught at San Jacinto College for 32 years and was involved in taking her students to The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festivals. She was also responsible for serving on the committee to build a Fine Arts Center for the campus. One of her students did the math and came up with the figure of 6,400 students that Sheleigh taught and fought for funding to help each one grow. The student stated that Sheleigh's memory will live on through her students. Sheleigh is also remembered as attending all of LaPorte's high school reunions and small events. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Jurek and son, Kevin Carmichael; brothers, John, Robert, Rick and Patrick Smith and one sister, Donna Gutierrez.
